Hymn Survey

Thirteen parishes returned questionnaires about the hymns they know and use. Seven of these parishes use Hymns Old and New with Supplement, four use Liturgical Hymns Old and New and the other two gave hymn numbers from Celebration Hymnal for Everyone.

The following are the most popular hymns! If there are some in this list that your parish doesn’t know you may like to try them.

All that I am, all that I do
Away in a manger
Christ be beside me, Christ be before me
Come, come, come to the manger
Do not be afraid, for I have redeemed you
Fill my house unto the fullest
Give me joy in my heart, keep me praising
God forgave my sin in Jesus’ name
God’s spirit is in my heart
Hail Redeemer, King divine!
Hark, the herald angels sing
Holy Virgin, by God’s decree
How lovely on the mountains are the feet of him
In bread we bring you, Lord, our bodies’ labour
I, the Lord of sea and sky
I watch the sunrise lighting the sky
Love is his word, love is his way
Morning has broken like the first morning
My God loves me (Our God loves us)
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Once in royal David’s city
Peace, perfect peace, is the gift of Christ our Lord
Soul of my Saviour, sanctify my breast
The Lord’s my shepherd
Walk with me, oh my Lord, through the darkest night and brightest day
We three kings of Orient are

All people that on earth do dwell
Angels we have heard on high

Colours of day dawn into the mind
Come, Lord Jesus, come
Come, O divine Messiah!
Follow me, follow me, leave your home and family
Gifts of bread and wine, gifts we’ve offered

Lay your hands gently upon us
Lord, Jesus Christ, you have come to us
Make me a channel of your peace
O bread of heaven, beneath this veil
O come, all ye faithful
O come, O come, Emmanuel
O little town of Bethlehem
Oh the love of my Lord is the essence
Praise my soul, the king of heaven!
Praise to the Holiest in the height
Seek ye first the Kingdom of God
Silent night, holy night
Sweet sacrament divine
Take our bread, we ask you, take our hearts, we love you

This is my body, broken for you
You shall cross the barren desert, but you shall not die of thirst

Dear Lord and Father of mankind
For all the saints who from their labours rest
Go, the Mass is ended, children of the Lord
Immaculate Mary, our hearts are on fire
In the bleak mid winter, frosty wind made moan
Lord of all hopefulness, Lord of all joy
My soul is filled with joy as I sing to God my Saviour
Oh Lord, all the world belongs to you
See, amid the winter’s snow
Sweet heart of Jesus, fount of love and mercy
Take my hands and make them as your own
The love I have for you, my Lord
While shepherds watched their flocks by night
Yahweh, I know you are near
